Carl Giovannini's iOS Apps

Wacky Stories

Curse Jar, my third iOS app, is simple but quite useful. You probably know at least a few people, whether they are friends, coworkers, etc, who are particularly fond of cursing often. You know, the people who include a foul word in every other sentence? You're probably pretty tired of hearing them swear over and over like that. Or maybe your kids are uttering curse words, including at family gatherings such as dinner. I'm sure you love having to hear that at the dinner table. Wouldn't it be useful if you could keep track of how many times these people are cursing, using your iPhone? Well, with Curse Jar, you can! Faced with the prospect of having to pay for their foul mouths, these frequent cursers will probably cut back on the swearing quite a bit, or in the case of your kids, they'll most likely stop most of their cursing as well.

"Are you tired of putting up with your coworker’s foul mouths? Does your dinner table sound like an R-rated movie? Then you need Curse Jar!

Curse Jar is the new take on the classic swear jar. Also known as a swearing jar, cuss jar or curse kitty, swear jars have been used by families and businesses alike to penalize those who tend to speak in “colorful” language.

Imagine all the uses for your very own curse jar:

  • Tag and charge your coworkers for their verbal tirades, then use the collected funds for an office luncheon or happy hour.
  • Use the Curse Jar to capture some funds for your charity of choice.
  • Kids using foul language? Use Curse Jar to total their penalties and subtract that from their weekly allowance.
  • Use Curse Jar in a positive way by totaling nice things people do, or adding bonuses to the kids' allowance for doing extra chores.

With Curse Jar, you can save as many people’s penalty totals as you want. Curse Jar keeps track of each person’s total, as well as a keeping a running total of the whole jar. You can reset an individual person after you collect, or you can just delete the saved name.

So what are you waiting for? Scoop up Curse Jar now and clear the airwaves around you!"

Curse Jar Features

  • Basic, yet also fun and intuitive, interface
    • After tapping the curse pig upon opening the app, you are presented with buttons for each of the major currency types. Tapping any of the buttons adds the amount of that currency type to a temporary total
    • Then simply save that total with the tap of a button by then choosing which already-existing person to add that total to, or by creating a new person entry and adding the total to them. It's simple, intuitive, and fun.
    • With the tap of a button on the main screen, view a list of the people you're tracking and their current amounts that they owe to you.
  • Keep track of as many people as you'd like
  • You get to keep the money you obtain from the foul-mouthed people you track and do whatever you want with it.
  • After a while of having to pay you for their cursing each time they swear, the people you track will most likely stop cursing or at least curse less frequently (at least when you're around) Mission accomplished!

Instructions/How to Use

  1. Open the app and wait for it to load. (Duh!)
  2. Pick any of the that are listed in the story list.
  3. Fill in all the blank fields with whatever the field's label tells you to fill it in with. (For example, if the label next to a field tells you to fill in the field with a noun, pick any noun you can think of and then fill in the field with that noun.) If you are not sure what something is, there are examples provided for you. You can also tap the "Help" button in the top right corner of the screen. A sheet will pop up giving you the definition for each of the parch of speech that you will need to fill in the fields with.
  4. Once you have filled all the fields in and are sure everything is right, click the arrow button located at the bottom right corner of the screen. A sheet will pop up and you will be presented with three options:
    1. If you want to view the finished story, tap "View My Story!" Your story, all filled in and finished, will appear. You can then read it silently or out loud to your family or friends. Either way, you'll definitely get a good laugh out of it!
    2. If you want to email your story, tap "E-mail My Story!" This will bring up and email form. Fill this out, then tap "Send." Your email will be sent, and your finished story will be shared!
    3. If you want to go back to filling in the fields of your story, tap "Cancel!"
